JESUS' BIG COMMANDMENTS ARE THREE NOT TWO, ONE BIGOTEDLY TELLS YOU TO BELIEVE IN GOD

We can talk about Jesus giving two big commandments but if we are going to be strict he actually gave three.

When Jesus quoted the great commandments he quoted three not two.

One goes that the Lord alone is God. That is a command to believe. This is about belief.

The next thing is about choosing God. "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind [he adds in mind] and strength." God alone matters.

The last one is about putting this faith into action. You shall love your neighbour as yourself. So you help your neighbour for the sake and pleasure of God alone.

Jesus saying you can love God with all your strength is strange. It makes us depend on ourselves.  Jesus was clearly setting us up for a fall.  He kept going on about "this evil generation" and "only God is good". What could he expect?  It is bullying to set a bar so high that people will fail and hurt each other.

It is bullying to tell people what to believe.  It is bullying to tell people to assume a God and make him the only thing that matters.  It is bullying to be told to use this foundation to love your neighbour.  As God commands this it is about God not the neighbour.

God by definition is the fulfilment of your existence and gives meaning to you, to your whole being, which follows from his creating you out of love.  That is what the commands are getting at.
