Do we prevent somebody being hurt by superstition or faith by rejecting and challenging those things?

Is it mistaken to support organised religion in membership or donations?

If people do good because they are human, not because God prompts them then is it right to risk giving God any credit when they alone own their good?

AGAINST THE POPE, POSTS I HAVE MADE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Givenomoney2catholicchurch commented on BBC Sunday Morning Live's post.

The other issue is with him is that he insults and rewrites history by claiming to be the head of Christianity on earth. In fact the bishop of Rome gradually got that status by stealth and lies over time. People died during the transformation of the bishop of Rome into the vicar of Christ. Jesus saying Peter was the rock did not imply Peter was going to be the only rock and rock does not necessarily denote infallible head of the Church on earth.

It is appalling that this morning Pope Francis was spoken of a top peacemaker. How could a man who said gay love had no similarity to heterosexual marriage, who said children should be hit, that the Charlie Hebdo victims brought it on themselves, that Islam never is violent (he must know the Koran gives a mixed message on religious violence just like his own Bible) and that transgenders are the annihilation of mankind be a peacemaker? He advocates hatred against the "sin" of abortion and takes no responsibility if people lose their reason and start killing abortion doctors to save unborn lives. To put him in the same category as the Dalai Lama is insulting.

Pope Francis Denounces Concept of Gender Choice

The pope is a bigot for I feel that as long as a person wants to be the opposite gender they should be allowed to be even if they do not have gender dysphoria. It should be a choice.

Pope Francis: 'The world is at war' - BBC News

I am not happy with the pope saying all religions are peaceful for that is not true. And he knows it. If Islamic State is not truly Muslim it is still a religion for it honours a violent god. And we must remember that Catholicism through most of its history officially endorsed violence and killing witches. And Jesus had no problem saying the Bible was written by God despite all the violence and hate it condones and commands. And do not forget that Catholicism murdered many of its own in the Middle Ages and nobody says that means it was not Catholicism. Please talk sensible and not be repeating politically correct nonsense.

David Wales But Islam has no religious authority or revelation from "God" about how to set up this pope. The individual is left to interpret the Koran which means the religion and the faith must take some responsibility for what happens when they read the violent stuff.

The reason why people like the clerics and the popes and the theologians devote themselves to religions and prophets and a Jesus who are okay with violence and who even commanded it - eg Jesus said that the adulterous woman though he would spare her should be stoned to death for she deserved it - is because they prefer a gray God to a truly good one. It is a symptom of how human nature wants a God and a morality that suits it. Real good is too challenging and too scary. So people make do with a replica of goodness and become do gooders.

Pope Francis on violence against children, "“One time, I heard a father in a meeting with married couples say ‘I sometimes have to smack my children a bit, but never in the face so as to not humiliate them’,” Francis said.

“How beautiful.” he added. “He knows the sense of dignity! He has to punish them but does it justly and moves on.”
